I get asked this question all the time because, well, I’m a lifestyle photographer.

Simply put, lifestyle photography focuses on capturing candid or unposed moments, but there’s more to it than snapping a shot of your kid digging in the dirt.

The goal is to capture people in real-life situations with genuine emotion, and when your photographer is good (ahem), the results provoke deep feeling and sentiment. It’s a combination of photojournalism and fine art with the intention of capturing an uninterrupted story with the utmost care.

Don’t worry! This is your photoshoot and I’ll work to give you everything you want and more. I’ll get some posed photos of everyone smiling at the camera (these are quick n’ easy) and then… let the wild rumpus begin!

The rest of our session will consist of you, your family, and me HAVING FUN. Let’s play with your kids, laugh, run, somersault, and whatever else it takes to get an amazing batch of unposed and authentic photos that highlight the very best of the real you.

Ahhh, the most frequently asked frequently asked question… My answer? Wear something comfortable!

We may have to walk or hike a bit depending on the location. Bring an extra pair of clothes for the children in case of any accidents (yes. these happen) and, if you so choose, you’ll have time for an outfit change.

You can blend but please… Do not match. Maxi dresses work beautifully for outdoors, anything with movement looks great. Need more guidance? Once you book your session, you’ll get an email from me with more in-depth suggestions for what looks good (and what doesn’t).

I got this. This is part falls under “photographer miracle work” and is part of the experience you get when you hire me.

A good photographer (well, hello) will ease their subjects and capture them at their best (goldfish not included). I love to play games, switch things up, rock out to music, and don’t forget dancing – there’s gotta be some dancing.

The top-secret secret is this: when the parents are relaxed and calm, everything usually works out. But… as we all know, babies and young children can be totally unpredictable and can sense a stressful atmosphere from a mile away, so though things might not go as planned, I bet my wide angle lense I can still get some good shots!

If we’re left facing the worst case scenario (tantrums, meltdowns, fits of stubborn i’m-not-gonna-cooperate moments), it’s typically possible to capture more “good” moments than parents ever think is possible. It’s not called miracle work for nuthin’!

Sometimes the most magical memories are made at home – I LOVE in-home sessions. They’re perfect for capturing your life as it is in each stage and phase. When you look back on your pictures in twenty years, these are the moments you’ll want to remember.

My family sessions include the shoot plus an online gallery for easy viewing, sharing, printing and ordering. Your pictures are delivered fully edited as high resolution digital downloads. If your package includes prints, I order them through my preferred lab and when they’re ready, they’ll be delivered right to your home.

Additionally, you can order prints through me or from the lab of your choice, but I don’t suggest ordering from places like Walgreens or Target. For more information on packages, check out my services page.

The shoot itself will take anywhere from 1-2 hours. Enough time to get the right shots without taking up your whole day!
